She Sat There

She sat there so shaken and cold,
Reminiscing what she was told.

She sat there letting time pass,
Not realizing this night was her last.

She sat there as day turned to night,
Praying with all she had to see the light.

She sat there forcing herself to bleed.
"What lord? What?... What do you need?"

She sat there hopeless for a reply,
"Are you there, or are you a lie?"

She sat there hearing what He said,
Letting it replay and replay in her head.

He said, "My love, my child, your son has died tonight.
Now, are you willing to die or fight?"

"This night, dear lord, you took my life,
The only thing I have now is this knife."

She sat there placing the blade to her skin.
She hoped the knife could rid her sin.

He said, "I know you want the pain to go away,
But that'll only happen if you stay."

She sat there slowly feeling dead,
Looking down at the hate-filled tears she had shed.

She sat there fading from earth.
Tonight was the night of her rebirth.
