a normal night gone wrong

a normal night gone wrong
as the fall season interrupts the summer with death and cold
I am left with all the familiar sensations of life's memories
brought on by what seems to be every moment of this night
and when these memories seem to merge to one entity
something which would normally leave me behind
as my own soul would seem to die
the past memories leaving with no future
but tonight this night like the rest
the memories come and go and I am left here
with a smile across my cold lips
and a twinkle in my eye which has never seen a night like this
because through each memory as it passes
I seem to catch a glimpse through the traffic
seeing what’s really on my mind
what I hope is future what I hope is certain
what I know makes me happy
as each moment and memory passes
the moments that matter are the ones with the spaces
then I can see you and what I hope is to come
and of what has past
this leaves me and I smile
the cold crisp wind tainted with the smoke of fireplaces
blows over my face as I drive
to my future
to you...
