Break Me Down
Written by S. Nicolino

I build up my walls
Pack it tight I tell myself
These enemies must not well the mighty falls
Allies seek protection
They seek what I am trying to build
I cannot allow them into my space

For a while

But you, you break me down
You broke through my outer walls
Said you wouldn’t instigate my mighty falls
And I believed you, so my walls collapsed

For a while

Painstakingly you broke something else
The thing I was trying to shield from them all in the first place
It shattered, the remaining warmth, the REAL warmth that is, has hardly
stayed to mingle
And those mighty falls… they had been building for quite a while…

For a while

I had led myself to believe that the falls would be MY downfall.

Weakness.
Pain.
Broken.
Lies.

Express myself.
What a ridiculous suggestion.
The enemies and allies alike are not ready for my true expression.
So once again I build my walls.

I must let nothing break me down.
Ice. Fire.
This is how I must be.
Don’t break me down.
Can’t let you break me down.
