Sometimes I say things
That I never really mean
And I look back over the words
And they’re never what they seem

When I say I hate you
I mean I love you with everything I have
When I say you’re stupid
I mean that I’ve never met a smarter man

When I say I didn’t miss you
I mean I stayed up all night waiting
When I said I didn’t mean to
I mean please, don’t hate me

I told you never to talk to me again
I told you that I didn’t want to be friends
But I don’t think you understood
I meant shut up and kiss me
Because I want to be more

But when I said I loved you
I meant so much more
You’re my one, my only
My very core

Sometimes you need to
Read between the lines
The words between my lips
To catch the meanings deep inside
And ones I really meant
