imagine
a small room
hot and white
hotter on half then the other
you being so young
you can't speak clearly
so you don't speak at all
all of your family is there
someone holding your hand
but all you see
is that box
it is on a stand of some kind
in front two doors
shinny metal
silver and they open lying down
you hear a boom
chains rattle
stepping back your eyes stare
seeing orange, yellow, and red
flickering and dancing
that box moves
people dab at their eyes
you look up, they kneel
mommy is leaving
say Good-Bye
so you mumble bye
you'll see her later
at home
cause everyone knows
mommies don't just leave
they say
I'll always be there for you honey
no matter what
as the box goes into the doors
it begins to smoke
and mommy always says
where there is smoke there is fire
so, you ask
mommy is in that box right
they nod yes
and that door is fire
they nod agreeing
okay
your eyes well with tears
why is mommy on fire
they try to explain
mom is gone
dead
but you know
mommies don't just leave
you walk out of the room
into the hot day
still holding hands
you are going home
you are glad cause
your mommy is home waiting
for you
i guess i didn't get it
back then
