look in my eyes
what can you see?
they can tell you a story
for which words escape me
they can show you who i am

on the surface
darkness, depression
the sadness that has begun taking over
from the surface flow my tears
and on the surface you find
what i seem to be,
who i look like on the outside

go a little deeper
and you'll find,
just barely visible,
the small shard of hope
i hold onto it through this life
and although much has made it smaller
it cannot be taken away from me completely

the deepest part
where i hardly know myself
is where you can find other things
my one fear: fear itself
the heaviness that settles itself over me
a rock crushing me down and trying its hardest
to completely take me over

come back to me now
you have seen everything
i have opened myself to you
and now, in this few moments,
you can know who i truly am
the person i have always been
you have seen it
through the windows to my soul
