Twisted Dream

A twisted dream,
Playing behind the closed eyelids of my soul,
Unforgiving hands wrapping themselves around my minds neck,
Taking a firm, hard grip,
he's standing right in front of me,
Yelling his heart out,
I run away but I reach the edge and I'm trapped.

I've been running through my dreams,
Avoiding my memories of my life with him,
I've been running along the edges of my circular prison,
Filling my lungs with air,
Screaming until I fainted,
I lay there helpless with nothing left to do.

Giving up,
Crawling to my knees,
Lifting my hands in surrender,
I tried to avoid him, oh God, MY God.
Open my eyes!
Let me wake help!

Prying apart my stapled shut eyes,
Releasing my withered, hate filled hands,
No longer running my race with the devil
Awake,
Aware,
Alive...and well.
