Why don't we lay on my bed
And listen to something that explains us both..
And what we're in,
And how we got sucked in.
We'll call it 'Our Song,'
And you can sing your part to me.
The part about holding me beneath the stars,
And the part where his voice starts to tremble..
From being too happy,
Or so I like to think.
And I could sing my part to you.
The part where she starts to sing
About butterflies,
And love at first sight.
I think that's what I had for you.
Could you hold me until the song ended?
Or could I put it on 'Repeat,'
So you could hold me until your arm fell asleep?
Or maybe you could handle the pain..
And maybe I'll be able to handle the pain, too..
When we reach our end.
Oh, but let's not talk about that..
No, just keep on whispering in my ear,
Over his voice,
And over her smiles.
Don't stop singing..
Just sing in any tune you want,
Just please keep those words straight..
And try not to think about that time you walked in on us,
And I promise I'll keep on trying to forget those times.
Those times she called,
And those times you smiled when she called.
I wish his voice would drone out every 'I love you,'
That you ever whispered in her ear.
And I wish her every smile
Could cover up those times you walked in on us.
But they can't..
And they won't.
So let's just lay here,
And I'll put this song on 'Repeat.'
Maybe that will help keep the romance..
Maybe that will hide our infidelities.
This poem isn't very good in my opinion. It didn't do anything for
me, to be honest, like some of my poems do. You know.. that feeling of
accomplishment after you're done getting out what you feel you have to
say. Or want to say. Whichever one suits you. Either way.. sorry for the
long read.. and have a good morning/afternoon/evening.
