As I sit here writing letters
You're probably safe at home
Writing your excuses
For why you are never alone
Well that's ok I understand
All that you really wanted
Was to hold someone else's hand
Is that what you tell the other boys?
Or just what you tell me
Do you pretend like you did with us?
Do you lie about your history?
Well that's ok I understand
You're afraid of life
When you're not holding somebody's hand
And even if I am not
The one you want to love
I will still be there beside you
For the occasional hug
All you ask and all you need
Is two completely different things
All you want and all you'll get
Will never once be the same

Remember when you spent the night with me
The next morning you said thanks for the beautiful time
Have you ever had that feeling with anybody else?
So play pretend but I am not singing to myself

And it's early in September
And we are on the phone
Both of us can remember
When this month used to scare me so
School was about to start
And I become so afraid
So you told me to just relax
Today will be your day
To make me feel comfortable
So easy calm relaxed
And I felt loved and so cared for
Until the day went passed
Now here we are September again
This times not the same
There's only fear of the unknown
But this one won't cause pain
This time I can take your hand
And tell you how I feel
You can play pretend and at like
This couple isn't real
But I can see right through your eyes
I know you don't mean this
I planned ahead and organized
And I've been making lists
Of reason why were meant to be
Let's hope you take the time
To read it thought it's me and you
Don't bother with your lies
