Only Four Years Ago

Only four years ago
On this very, exact same day,
Families would come together,
Just to kneel down and pray.

While soldiers overseas,
Would crouch and close their eyes.
And a tear would escape from the corner,
As the smell of death would rise.

The little girls and boys,
Would be sent back to their buses.
To be sent home in a hurry
And find out was the fuss was.

The parents would try to explain,
Mumbling with a sobbed voices.
It would be hard for them to understand,
But they had made the right choices.

And the TV would be blaring,
Showing the pictures on the screen.
It’s the same on every channel;
Such a horribly disgusting scene.

It’s hard and sad to imagine
That this catastrophe took place.
When we all thought it was just “another eleventh”
And that those planes were flying with grace.

But then those towers gave the proof
That everything wasn’t okay.
And looking back on four years,
It’s hard to think it was today.

So try to think of what it must’ve been like
To be the people in the towers
Just to stand there, waiting to die;
Thinking and watching for hours.

God looked down to us and saw
A flag rising through the mess.
Red, white and blue, we still prevail,
America stands tall, couldn't think any less.
