Lost Map

You were like my compass
In a world so dark and red
But you turned and guided me
Into a black dead end
The ‘x’ marks the spot
Toward my future cross
Heart now beating, sudden stop
Heat and breath, at a loss
Buttered words on a silver platter
Backs stabs and mirrors shattered
On a leash more like a chain
Itching endlessly, feel my pain
Sugar dreams to deadly nightmares
Secret worries, must admire
The way you lead me, Mentally fed me
Everything I wanted to hear
Pointed to the sign, underlined
Waited until I got near
Blinded me with hope so I had turned
So many mistakes, I should’ve learned
Don’t know where I am
Can’t see where I’m going
Walking down an empty road
Not possible of knowing
You were my map when I was confused
Found my way back only to be used
This little game has gone on too long
And if you think I’m done, you’re wrong
Regretting the memories that haunt me still
Turning and spinning like a old windmill
Even when we’re apart you plague my thoughts
Fills me with lonesome like an empty lot
Pick myself up and climb to the top
I started, now finishing, refusing to stop
And when I’m there I’ll look back at you
Bet you didn’t know what I could do
Now kiss me goodbye and wave to me
Bet you didn’t know you’d save me
