Underground River

Below the ground your feet tread upon
Before your path even had begun
Where the water leaks through cracks so small
One wrong step could lead to your last fall
I hear you, you’re voice is muffled
I hear your feet go along and shuffle
Take a look under the ground
I’m just a girl waiting to be found
Only a thin layer of crust as our bars
I can almost feel you, but you’re still too far
It’s dark down here, the sun is hidden
It’s cold down here, heat is forbidden
So I sit in this underground river
The water trembles as I shiver
The tide is rising and I bang the rock
But every one of my attempts is blocked
Can you hear me, I have screamed
My fragile life so unredeemed
The air is disappearing at a speedy rate
If you’d save me now, you’d be too late
But before I let my eyelids go down
I break my hand through the ground
And before I let my last breath fly
Your hand touches mine and then I die
