You were but an infant
When I left your side
I had no power then
No matter what I tried

To have you with me
I truly tried my best
To see you once again
Was my only request

And like a Greek tragedy
Your illness made us one
Bringing us together
We thought your life was done

And till this very day
I have never known why
You remained so strong
And I rarely saw you cry

You won the battle then
The monster went away
Never to be seen again
Is what I heard you say

But only one year later
The evil fiend came back
It wanted to take you away
Our sunny skies turned black

You succeeded once again
A hearty life you gained
We had you back in our lives
Your will no longer stained

Then many years went by
We lost each others sight
I tried so hard to see you
You did too, with all your might

Then when least expected
We found each other again
Each other grew so much
Our new life could begin

We enjoyed some cherished days
You left for school so sure
I looked at our relationship
As something sweet and pure

And just as we felt so well
The monster raised his head
Again he wanted your soul
He laughed at prayers said

My tears are constant now
I only want you well
I know that God will please you
As time will surely tell.
