Desolate Branch

A bird alights on my finger.
No warmth or gentleness brought it here.
My likeness to a dead branch attracted it.
The bird stares at me
as it would a potential nest
or perhaps valuable territory,
my eye cannot discern its nature.
Desolation scares it away,
and I am left alone again.
I am a dead tree
in the midst of a flower garden.
