Blood, Pavement, Memories and Knees

Have you ever stood in the same place
Where you once fell so very hard
Looked at it and remembered slowly
How bad you were hurt?
Suddenly the scratches on your knees
Burn brightly in the midnight shadows
The pain returns and your eyes
Go wide with shock and fear
The feeling comes back without change
The same blood flows past your calves
Are you frightened yet?
Because it’s only beginning
Your eyes flash with memories
The ones you promised you’d forget
The ones that made you cry every night
The ones that built you up, built you weak
So they could come back and haunt you
Just for this moment.
You relive everything that has ever
Caused you distress, aggravation, depression
Insanity
All packaged in one unannounced attack
You feel like this blast from the past
Has thrown you against a wall
But your still standing on that one spot
Your bloody, bruised knees are shaking
But you fight it, like you always have
Until your final memory is the one
Where you heard the last words before
You fell, fell so very hard
And your knees give in
You hit the ground and the dark, soulless
Pavement scrapes across your flesh
The blood stains your skin
The tears fall and the salt stings your wound
Why did this happen again?
Because your knees are forever doomed
