And it was gargling
And snarling
And chomping at the bits
And the wishing well was boiling
Fore the wishes seemed to quit
And the tree bark never fell so fast
And steady heartbeats held their clunks back
And there was a difference in the wind
And it seemed to whisper
And twirl and flutter as butterflies
And the lampposts and their lights
Shone so bright
And I saw thorough you
As tires sped by
And I saw how empty you were
And the tires stopped
Dead in their tracks to observe
And the wind hung low
Silent and sullen
And those heartbeats
Melted to glass
And the trees petrified
And false suns shone so bright
And they waited
For something to happen
But they hoped
(in the pits of their souls)
That nothing would last
