I jumped and I clasped my hands around it
I caught it at last
There was whistling somewhere behind me
I looked quickly behind my shoulder
Nothing!
I opened up my hands to see
That the idea had escaped me
Just one second is all it took
So I sat there out in the open
Desert of my mind
Waiting for that raindrop of creativity
Waiting patiently with a cup of tea
And two scones, cinnamon
Then it came all at once
At 4 A.M. and two days without sleep
A storm raining down on me
Puddles and puddles of new ideas
And I stood there like a cactus
My little prickly fingers
Pour out these new things
Into my laptop before the storm ended
And I stand alone in the desert again
Waiting for the next storm to come
I am a cactus in the creative desert
