Seems like just yesterday
You were holding me close to you
Nothing else mattered
And I could not imagine being anywhere without you
Reality lingered in the distance
Neither of us wanted to acknowledge its presence
So it waited patiently in the background
Waking up next to you
Falling asleep to the rhythm of your breath
Laying with your arms around me
All little insignificant things
That won’t leave my memory
Kissing your lips
Feeling them on my body
Feeling you inside me
All sensations I don’t want to fade
Although I fear they will in time
We tried so hard to ignore it
But reality arrived
With a harsh knock at the door
And forced us to depart
Our lives calling us back
Leaving our little piece of paradise
Behind a do not disturb sign
You drove your way
And I drove mine
Every time I laid down that night
Something was missing
I felt empty and alone
But I knew that somewhere you were feeling that too
I imagined your smile
And your laugh
Hugged my lifeless pillow and finally got to sleep
To wake up to another day without you
Another day of wishing you were next to me
Whether in the car
Walking to class
Watching TV
Just wanting you and everything about you
It’s getting a little easier each day
And in time it won’t be a constant thought playing on my mind
I just look forward to the future
And how lucky I am
To be able to call you every night
And hear your sweet voice
And have you make me laugh
Feeling better about whatever trivial dispute life hands me
I know that even with all the reality between us
We’ll make it
Because for the first time in my life
I’ve found love
I’ve found it in you
And it’s addicting and beautiful
Bitter and sweet
Simple and complicated
And something I can never live without
