(I wrote this for someone who has since broken my heart... but I liked the
poem so I'll just chuck it out there for y'all to critique)

smile as the tear falls
you know things will be better
the worst has passed,
the battle was won
and we can be together now
no longer are we scared
always can we proclaim it
that we are in love,
have been forever,
will always be
even though they hurt us
they ridiculed us
we cried and bled,
heads on each others shoulders
shaking silently together,
miserable for each other
who knew that we could win
we'd never dreamed of this
even though we've hidden so long
crouched in shadows,
curled up behind walls,
the fear pounding in our hearts
(the hearts already pounding
with the thrill of being together)
love from such different places,
different backgrounds,
completely separate lives
joined together unexplainably
who knew something like this could happen?
was it fate,
set for our futures,
or simply coincidence,
unnecessary but so needed,
essential to our very survival
we never needed time to think
from that first moment,
dark except for the bright lights,
and, of course, eyes of either sides
who knew what could go down
when two people with nothing in common,
introduced by the only thing we both knew
now together forever,
joined by a bond stronger than friendship
a love without set rules
no regulations, just the right
a simple love, yet so complicated
who knew that you would be that right one?
