As the crowd pushes
Through the doors
I sit
And wait
Waiting for something
Yet not sure of what
Or why
People push
Trying to escape their fears
Running from disappointment
Hiding in shame
While they grasp at the gates
Large handles
They try and try
But never succeed
They are swept away
Into the depths below
Everyone should have waited
Waited with me
I am in a state of nothingness
Equally good equally bad
So I am given another chance
Then sent away
As years pass, I find
Once again
I am before the gates
Knowing where I wish to go
I step forward
Then am sucked violently down
Toward the darkness
I can feel the loneliness
And cold emptiness
Of below
I claw and fight
Grasping at everything, finally
I reach the top
Bleeding and broken
I cry
I release all that is in me
Anger and fear
Quilt, shame, and hurt
I feel pure
Cleansed
Through blurry eyes
I see the light
Warm and bright
I stand
Walking forward
The handles part
As the gate swings open
The sweet smell of flowers
Fill my lungs
With the first step inside
I hear music
And know instantly
I am home
And this is
Where I remain
Always
