Driving down the main street
It’s somewhere past midnight
Taking my time with the speed
Shone over by the street lights
I just couldn’t fall asleep
And that’s why I’m on the road
But the other cars carry people
With reasons so untold
Somewhere out there is a girl
Who’s just been beaten by her boyfriend
Somewhere there’s a lady in labor
And now she’s past six months pregnant
Somewhere there’s a teenager
Who’s trying to run away from their life
Somewhere there’s a guilty husband
Who’s going to cheat on his wife
Somewhere there’s a drunk man
Trying to find just one more bottle
Somewhere there’s a busy son
Rushing to see his mom in the hospital
Somewhere there’s a boy
Who had to get some air, stole the keys to the car
Somewhere there’s a couple
Who had to find their way, nowhere was too far
Somewhere there’s a group of people
Who just came back from a party
In that car, maybe the driver
Has been drinking too much Bacardi
Somewhere there’s a criminal
Who got himself into trouble way too deep
But somewhere there’s someone
Like me, who just couldn’t sleep
We’re so different, yet here we are
All driving in the middle of the night
But eventually we’re all the same
Driving under the same street lights
