A glimpse of my collar bone
As my sleeve shrugs down
I long to wear a summer dress
Or a flowing midnight gown
To waltz upon the city breeze
Beneath the sizzling sun
To feel graceful and feminine
The day has just begun
Ribbons run around my legs
Caressing my silky skin
Gentle heels brush the clouds
As I break into a spin
Oh, weightlessness is a sin
I am dancing in a dream
I will focus on what life is
And not what it has been
Walk along the avenue
Wave to each of the high brow
Curtsy to the men in formal wear
And be received with a bow
Drink red wine and dine
Sniff a long stemmed rose
While standing before a camera
That snaps my princess pose
To have a destination chosen
Before the dreaded night fall
Greet a hotel door man
And not feel so shamefully small
“Walk the runway,
Win the crown,
Blow the kisses,
Don’t fall down.”
Follow the wealthy motto
The snotty high classed saying
Start the day laughing at the beggars
End it with polished praying
My long patched “little hobo” coat
Does not sway with grace
It cannot measure up
To your dress made of lace
My second hand Nikes
May wear well for travel
But they cannot brush the clouds
No, they tread on gravel
Your life is but an elegant day dream
For me there is no way
I own not the clothes to wear
Or the pocket money to pay
Yet you refuse me
One single dime
You walk past once again
For for me-
you haven’t the time.
