I made a new friend today
We were identical, it seems
Her face was so exquisite
But on the inside I heard screams

Somehow I knew so much about her
She knew the same of me
But what I came to find out shocked me
She'd experienced the same things

She'd been parted from her mother
Losing her to drugs
Her brother didn't understand her
All she longed for was a hug

Her father had always been there for her
But lately he's been sick
Now they have financial problems
The pieces just won't stick

She has dreams for her future
Hoping one day to sing
I asked her to sing a note for me
And how that girl could sing

After listening so patiently
I told my story, too
She just couldn't believe it and said
"I am just like you!"

Happy to meet this person
Who understood all I said
I had to express to her
All the thoughts in my head

We stood up together
No longer feeling alone
I knew this friendship would last forever
So I offered her a hug

I reached my arms out toward her
And tried to pull her nearer
But as I did this, hopefully
I realized my best friend was a mirror
