Walkers in the Night

Tears shine through the mask I hide behind.
I knew it was too late to pretend.
My masquerade had come to an end.
I wanted to believe in the miracle of the darkness.
Where spells were cast
to bring forward the past.
I thought we could live together,
gargoyle and vampire alike.
We shield ourselves from the light,
and take pleasure in the night.
Loners who became friends
and thought to forge a bond.
Our clans couldn't see
why we should protect humanity.
Vampires drink to kill,
and gargoyles kill to save.
We each survive in a human pit,
though we are not a part of it.
As dawn approaches I turn to stone,
while you sleep a vampire's sleep.
Until the sun falls from the sky,
I shall keep my life a lie.
