Life As You Will Know It

Leave the dagger at home tonight
You won’t need it
But fill your pocket with hope
Because in the end that’s all that’s left
Your eyes are so innocent
And at the moment I almost pity
The fool you are for walking on fire
Without even knowing you were burning
But this is life and pity makes you weak
Bones may break and blood may shed
Heads can roll tomorrow, but not today
Because today we’re setting you up for failure
And we don’t want to scare you off
We’re building you a body that can
Be bruised to the darkest blue
It’s you’re job, now, to protect yourself
No longer will we be your armor
The kneepads are coming off and you
Yes, you, are guaranteed a few scars
But though this looks like your downfall
You can rise like a fallen angel
And if you do, perhaps you can save us
From the immortal darkness we brought you in
Then maybe no more poor fools
Will have to go through this again
