You're Just A Man

Your gaze longs for more
My expression swirls into confusion
Disappoint glinting in your eyes
Becomes my own eye’s pollution
Whispers in my head in your voice
Sound like screams echoing loudly
Yet you still don’t rejoice
But continue to hurt me proudly
’Be better, not good enough’
When I’ve offered you my soul
But you stand there wanting more
With a heart as dark as coal
Still, I strive to meet your standards
I shall climb to the very skies
When I get there you will be there
To wipe my moist, cold eyes
But why do I dream, of fitting in your world?
When in your golden eyes, I’m just another girl
I watch the same sun, rise and then set
I’ll go through the same thing, birth and then death
Forgive me for wanting, to make a difference
I fight this emptiness with resistance
But no matter how cruel your walk is
No matter how much you mock this
I won’t break down because that’s too easy
And I won’t give you everything, that’s too cheesy
I’ll just keep my hopes for as long as I can
Because in the end, you’re just a man
