My Weakness

My chest feels empty
My ears test for a heartbeat
Where has it gone?
Gallivanting around the town no doubt
While I’m strapped to the ground
Praying these handcuffs won’t
Cut off my last bit of circulation
I watch the wind sweep roughly
Against my open wound on my arm
Why don’t you just pour fucking salt on it
Yeah, I’m talking to you
I know you’re waiting in the corner
Waiting for tears to kiss my cheeks
For the flush of misery to leave
Red blotches on my porcelain face
You think I can’t sense your smirk from across the room?
Well you’re wrong, I can even feel your breath
I’m sucking in the shine of your eyes as we speak
Now tell me, did it all go to plan?
Did you break me down enough for you to
Find my weakness lying beneath it all?
Your ashamed tilt of the head tells me no
I laugh whole-heartedly at your hands
Fiddling with themselves aimlessly
You knew you would fail but I have news for you
The thing you search may be right under your nose
And I’m whisper under my breath
Don’t you know that it’s you?
