The Man Behind the Wooden Door

As quiet as can be,
I tiptoe across the floor
To find myself encountered
By a tarnished wooden door

Its rough surface gave me splinters
Its ghastly color made me flinch
But the curiosity in me
Lured me closer inch by inch

I press my ear against the door
All is silent, nothing more
But then I heard startling sound
That made me stumble onto the ground

So soon I got up
My fears disappeared
It was then I heard a voice
Whispering in my ear

A face I saw,
One I’ve seen before
That waits for me in darkness
Behind this tarnished door

A familiar visage
No other has seen
An illusion of love
That resides in my dreams

His eyes so deep
His skin so fine
How I long for those lips
To become one with mine

He comes closer and closer
I feel the warmth of his skin
I fall in his arms
My inhibitions give in

His soft features glisten
With reflections of gold
But my eyes are forced to open
As I feel his arms unfold

His lips begin to fade
With the touch of morning light
His body once besides me
Had vanished from my sight

Once again my lips linger
In the undisturbed air
I reach out to hold him
But he’s no longer there

So I strive to resist
The calling of day
but the warriors of night
have been defeated by rays...
