Alley Cat

This ghostly cement path simply seemed
Empty to soft spoken eyes
But on such a rainy day it was filled
With a body of humble size
Through wailing shadows emerged this
Orange alley cat from astray
Like an image sprung from a painting
But in a much more charming way
And with a swagger this cat strode
To the pipe where water drained
He drunk his fill and taught us all:
Even cats can enjoy the rain
