Remember Where You Live

Let’s push the pause button on life, and
Take a long whiff of the breath that was
Already sucked right out of us.

Walls are furiously torn down so
We can finally see the green sky.
Our entwined fingers go numb
As the gas plagues our minds with
Hopes still burning on logs.

I wish we could rewind these tragedies
To where I could lift you high enough
To lose sight of existence and
Pass stars without wondering
How you traveled so fast.

I wrap my arms around you, attempting
To make the halo I see clearly
Above your dark and ruffled hair.

If you ever feel like your home has failed,
Remember that you live inside me
My heart holds an extra bunk bed
If you need a place to sleep
Hoping that tomorrow
Won’t clash with today.

We’ve signed a contract with life’s Broad Way play,
And they’ve burnt the curtains so that we
Will never stop playing these roles.

So let’s just build a home of wood and straw.
Isolated in these grimy walls,
We’ll flush the whole world down our
Merciless toilet and hope that
The big bad wolf doesn’t
Blow our house down.
