So synchronized you divide
and I follow both of you
One destination leaves me satisfied
the other in the dark
When both doors are identical
not one seems “better”
not the other “less”
Oh, but how the courses differ
and each time I pray it’s where I fit
I tiptoe in.
There is no caution tape
but the warnings aren’t spelled out
until I tactfully seize the bait.
No escape for clammy fingertips
I’m subject to your scrutiny
The desire burns to turn around
and try the other key.
A silence with a pulse
your presence bruised beneath the wind
A staggered greeting addressed to “you”
Uncertain, for it was from “me”
Silence.
A silence so sharp it could cut
so alive, it seems to thrive on oxygen
No eager ear striving for words
Signature silence, I understand it as your reply.

Understanding, there’s the key!
in response a dull knock on the door
You are on the other side
no sense in bidding farewell to “you”
The silence will not stand
to once again, subside.
There is no doubt in my return
this door is always screaming wide
I tiptoe in.
Leave remembrance behind
Yet I will always be familiar
With the dimensions I warily scaled
that somehow find me
in this room
With you?
