Listen.
What do you hear?
A thousand little heartbeats,
Carrying voices, laughs, screams...
But what is heard?
The shouts of love and joy.
But what of the screams of pain and sorrow?
Can you hear them?
Are they there?
These screams
These people,
They need our help,
They cry in solitary,
A place so cold
Their hairs are standing straight,
They simply hope to get out.
But what is heard?
The joyous exclaims in the next room,
Where everything is just fine,
Yet they beg and they beg,
They wonder why.
Why don't they hear me?
All I ever do is cry
Shout
Scream for their help,
Yet they never come,
I sit here alone,
The only way that I know I'm still living,
Is the tiny bit of salt on my tongue.
Do you hear them yet?
Hidden behind such gracious smiles,
The hope alight in their eyes,
Hope for a way out of that dark corner,
The dragon that they must slay.
But are they heard?
Can you hear them?
Listen hard,
Past the neighbors dog barking,
Past the children in the street,
Way off in the distance,
Like a mirage in a desert,
Tell me.
Can you hear them?
Their whimpers,
Their tears,
Their voices...
What do they say?
Save me,
Someone find me.
Do you?
Do you go to them?
Do you dare go and SEE their pain?
To hear is one thing,
To see is another,
To begin is amazing,
Begin with listening,
Soon it won't be enough,
You'll venture to their side,
Pick them up on their feet,
Give them a shoulder for their tears to be dried,
You will help them,
Help them live again.
So I ask you once more,
What do you hear?
