The Trail

We begin down a wide, empty trail. Mid-summer heat held at bay
by tall, firm, strong trees. Hanging overhead they stand in their
powerful silence. Thick trunks and heavy, deep green leaves
envelope our path. Securing it, protecting it.

I want to be like these trees, for you.

Down a bit, the river begins. Following our trail, it plots its course. It
flows no more than a few feet from us, so fluid, so sure. This river presses
with no hesitation, no worries. Confidant in what lay ahead.

I want to be like this river, for you.

The breeze picks up, rustling the woods around us to life. As if for a brief
moment nature is speaking out loud. Feel it on your
skin, surrounding you, brushing the hairs on your neck, and arms. So gentle,
encouraging. The wind wills us forward.

I want to be like this breeze, for you.

A bird flies overhead, stealing your attention. Landing in a nest she
provides food for her young. She supports them for no
other reason than they are in her life, that’s all she needs. That’s all
that matters.

I want to be like this bird, for you.

We reach a fallen tree, by the river. We have a seat as I look
around. My eyes roam, and settle on you. At this moment I
realize I want to be everything for you. Everything that makes
you laugh and smile. I want to be everything that makes you feel
safe, wanted, needed, secure, loved, beautiful and happy.

I want to be me, for you.
