I remember
The scraggly bush beard like the savanna plains
Patchy and scratchy on my forehead
Not very comfortable but comforting enough
A security blanket that never let me get cold.

I remember
Jumping on you on sight, never letting go
Forgetting the use of my own legs
As you carried me wherever the wind decided to blow
The giant whose bounds always got me there.

I remember
Never being scared of trying
For if ever I fell you would catch me
Sometimes I would jump to test your commitment
Always you would catch me never wasting a moment.

What happened.

I know
I can never look you in the face
Nor do I seek the warmth of your embrace
The broken links between us forever I shall trace
But out of this relationship I bow out in grace.
You lied.

I know
You don't care for my happiness but your own
You seek to love one above another
And I refuse to be treated as second best
Nor will I allow you to treat me like this lest
I begin to believe what you think of me.

I know
I am not your route to success
You will not live your life through me
How dare you decide who I am and will be
What I hold dear and what I should fear.
I cannot see you as once I did for you have changed

I feel
That you only want the best for me.
That all you wish is my success
But understand that there is a conflict.
What I want is not what you want.
Yet you do not understand

I feel
like I am just a template
which you wish to influence
But I am me
I have my fears
I will never be a doctor
Because I am afraid of needles
Call yourself my father
You just don't understand.

But despite this Daddy dearest
You're still my father, the one and only.
Though I have not seen you for four years
Nor have I talked to you for two
I wish you A happy Father's day
From your youngest to you.
