The sun dies when the breath leaves your lips
Lost souls cry out in vain to touch
The fallen Angel
So gracefully she dies, and all the world is still
And the halo turns to dust
As she descends from the clouds
The children weep and gather 'round
To kiss the gentle mouth one last time
To hold her hands and ask their gods, 'Why?'
And they stand beside the sea
Casting lilies to the vengeful waves
As those Vigilant Ones lay her in the earth womb
I weep as Inanna shields her from the light
And she smiles at me from her satin and soil shroud
The tears are my life which once was her breath
And now the rain dances in remorse
And the moon keens in agony
Then--out of the twilight--the Others arrive
And gather her into their gentle arms
Their lips caress her face and hands
And the return whence they have come
Now, it is over.
She is gone,
And I am forever alone.
