Stolen Stars

I saw my past
walking down the street.
All the failure
was a sight to see.
I needed to relax,
release the stress,
and patch the broken heart
in my chest.
I couldn't wait
for the sun to go down,
so I could sit and relax
when the stars came out.
I wished on a star
that I could love someone else.
But I can't,
I was kidding myself.
I took each star
and made my wishes.
Hoping the next guy
wasn't inconsiderate or vicious.
They never came true,
maybe I was wrong,
maybe they burned out
my stars are gone.
Someone stole my stars
and put them in their pocket.
My hopes and wishes,
in a heart-shaped locket.
