Loose Chains

Threads of fate,
Brought us together,
But chains bind us as one.

Do you think,
Even our hearts beat as one?
The same rhythm,
Maybe... even... at the same time?

But these chains hold us,
No matter how hard one pulls,
Or the other pushes.

I wonder if we will get tangled,
To the point where
The chains cut off my circulation,
And my skin turns purple from where
The chains once put pressure.

Will you ever loosen my leash?
At times...
I wish for nothing more.

At times...
I wish
that we didn’t have so many loose chains
Between us.

These chains...
Sometimes feel cold,
And other times hot...
At both times
They turn your skin red.

You know how it is...
Too much pressure
Leaves marks,
Imprints,
Even rubs,
To the point of drawing blood.

And yet you do,
‘Cause your afraid
I will have our chain break.

Sometimes,
If you make the chain too tight,
It can break too.

I know how I am.
Give an inch
Take a mile.

I will find out eventually,
Won’t I?

...But either way,
The chain remains.
