She was...

She was...

A smiler, wide-eyed, and dandy
Ten fingers and ten toes
Welcoming all of the world

She was...

A mischief maiden,
runner not a walker
to explore the unknown
an seize all that is

She was...

A reciter of Langston Hughes
Of Shakespeare and Maya Angelou
A performer of life's stage

She was until...

Until a fateful night alone
With a creature
A creature who snatches girls
and steals their souls

It peeled it a bit
and took it whole

Now she is...

A gather of essence
A clinger of grace
A wonderer of passion
A tasteless clam
It's pearl stolen away

Shall she never find it again?
