Sometimes when the leaves grow green
I get weak at the knees
Because it's over.
The hanging breath upon your shoulder
Is no more.
No more fire between our bodies
To dance with elegance
Or grace
I miss seeing your face
Shiver in anticipation and fury
Holding back verbs
To obtain your glory
Articulate you are
Understanding you are not,
But that was then
When the moon was still blue
And the leaves were brown
On the ground
In shriveled up sentences.
Scribbled silence upon your wall
Poetry of the greatest poets
My own will divided
Into paint and creation.
This was when the leaves were green.
Shadowed and silenced by the setting sun
I know we have won.
We aren't what expectation
Can perceive and entice.
We are more like fireflies
Dancing in lovers eyes
And building walls of trust
And love
Brick by brick of patience
And acceptance.
I know why you look at me
With those eyes
Greener than the very leaves
That haunt my memories
Of lullabies and melodies.
You are loved
Not by the trees,
But by me.
