The silence wraps around me suddenly
Like a mother's arms comforting
Taking me away from the zoo
My pink ribboned cage where the
real animals
Are the ones who come to visit
And leave each night.
The lion, the king, all puffed with pride
Boisterous with handfuls of cash in his stride
Treats me like a lioness
His personal slave
While he sits, condescending
His piles crisp and neat
Meant to keep me in line
The ape, the brute, thumping his chest
Noisy and dirty but I still hold my smile
An oil soaked single I take with my best
Grace, wanting to scream all the while
The snake who tries to wrap around me
Pulling me close, his biggest error tonight
With a smirk, I gingerly take the twenty
And my guardian removes the constrictor's grip
A lumbering sloth, repulsive and sweating
Slinks away quietly to avoid paying in
He'll be back later, you can bet on that
But I'll be sure to avoid his slimed seat
Certain animals never frequent this zoo
Those are my favorite species
They make me feel refreshingly clean
That's the safari I will someday take
Where the other animals stay far away
Could I run with those packs?
Would they accept me if they knew?
If in beauty I lacked
Would it matter to those?
