So Close

the wheel circles round and round
but somehow she lost a sense of sound.
The lights glimmering, sparkles bright.
A spotlight of her life.

Children’s voices fill the night.
The spinning feeling has been some kind of fright.
There is nothing else to hide. She was so close
To getting off her self inflicted ride.
There is nowhere else to go.
She was so close, yet so far.

The fun house, tilted mirrors, everything upside down.
She didn’t see what everyone else saw. She was
The big dorky clown. Nothing you could
Say to help her. She always seemed to drown.
she was so close, yet so far.

Strangers cutting the lines, as if it were some kind of
Game. Her heart was like a burnt out fame.
The smallest things seemed to bother her
Everything around her became one big blur.
She was so close, yet so far.

So close she was almost there, the end of the
Annual county fair. The end of the line.
Her last breath. “I was almost there,” she said.
So close, and still so far.
