Darkness is inside my head
Sound echoing in my ears
Water sloshing by my feet
Lapping on my toes
Which dig furiously into the grainy sand
Uncomfortable
Yet calming
The wind blows back my hair
And gently tickles my face
Whispering
Telling
Secrets
Go further just walk
So I listen to my friend
The whispering wind
Further, further!
It yells
urging me to continue on my never ending quest
The salty water stings my legs
Reaching to my waist
Small fish race around my feet
Searching
Darting
Further
Further
The wind screeches
Whipping around my face
Its cool tendrils stretching out
Like the tail of a rogue creature
And then I hear nothing for I am surrounded on all sides by rushing, salty
water
My limbs rapidly try to push my way to the top
Threshing
Pushing
Defeated, my feet hit the sandy earth
They are stuck in place
The earth coaxing me to stay
Come to us
It says
My arms begin in a hopeless attempt at freedom
But the water is too strong
It pulls me to come with it
Just as the wind and earth did
And I let it all the same
I let it take me away
Take me to a place of peace
Out of this fractured world
Full of fallacies
Lies
Selfishness
Abuse
Yes, I will now belong to my true companions
The elements
And just as i see the last bubbles of air escape my tortured lungs
I see light
A single square of brilliant light
Holding a face within
One so familiar
So loved
Yet hated
So trusted
Yet betrayed
I am with my friends at last
You are home now
The water whispers
I am surrounded by darkness
Silence echoing in my ears
