Burning Out

I am a star
burning my life away.
You can see my shimmer from afar
but you can't reach me.
My iridescence flickering:
a fading gleam struggling within the darkness.
Soon I will burn out;
no longer can the gloom of these cloudy nights hide me in their shadows.
These clouds and their gloom:
They shield me from the ones who have weakened me and caused my retreat into
this solar wilderness...
When i fade away---
who will notice?
There are so many other stars
for you to lose amongst the city lights.
