Reality Strikes

Don’t think too much.
Don’t get too carried away.
Don’t mistake a needy glance for love.
Dreams are just dreams.
Reality strikes like an alarm,
Ringing…bringing me back.
Words are empty without soul.
Sex is empty without loving the one you hold.

Far from perfection…
But isn’t everyone?
Don’t give in.
Don’t settle for ok.
Don’t give all you have and get nothing back.

His smile brings me here again.
Slowly slipping backwards.
Maybe…No…it’s all the same.
Over and over a broken record,
Spinning my disappointments.

It never turns out like I plan.
But that’s how life goes right?
Time without a partner is so slow.
I pick myself up everyday
And play the game all over again.

Don’t take things too seriously.
Love is just another word.
Don’t believe the burning eyes.
What’s meant to be always is.

Don’t let yourself get trapped.
Don’t be blinded by false hopes of tomorrow.
Today is all we really have,
And it is slowly slipping away.
Hang on to only what you have to,
No going back.
Keeping my sad eyes straight ahead.
His silhouette gets smaller in my rearview mirror…
then disappears.
