Standing Alone

I’m standing alone...standing alone looking in a mirror...looking at my not
white completion
looking at my not black completion
But at my sweet caramel skin tone
I’m standing alone!
Running my fingers through my curly hair looking over my shoulder no longer
seeing my black mother and white father loving each other
No longer giving me that “Equal love”
I’m standing alone!
Jumping from home to home; open arms that embrace me all the way to closed
arms that want nothing to do with me
From city to city, friend to enemy
I’m standing alone!
With so many sides to me I know nothing of who I am
For in YOUR eyes I hold my head up with pride, walk with an attitude and in
a flash I’d snap on you
And yet I stand alone!
In a different place I’m a different person who wants to belong...
Wants to be loved for who I am!
Or who you think I am!
