A Happy Mask

I smile as if these tears aren't on my face,
As if this pain's not in my heart,
But no matter how happy I pretend to be,
This life is tearing me apart,

Hidden behind my happy mask,
I cry floods of salty tears,
And underneath my friendly act,
Breed cold and lonliness and fears,

And underneath that laughter,
Is the quiet irony,
That the only person who can help me,
Is the one who hates me most, is me,

Deep within my happy words,
Is a silent plea for help,
And with that simple plea,
Is a desperate hope...

For an end to me.
