in the deep, cold, murky waters
like different, mysterious creatures
with all the looks of very large fish
but with very different features

the lake bottom is their land and home
which we will never come to love
between the algae, the grass, the rocks
between the ridges and plains
below sea level is where they live
the land that they have claimed

as they walk around and live their lives
under their deep blue sky
where they will never see the sun
whether they have finally lost
or whether they still have won
